Getting started
The first time you open ReefLogix, it creates a tank called My Reef and asks for a name and the tank volume. The volume is optional, but it lets Fits your reef tell you whether a species has enough room.
Two reminders are set up for you: a water change every 7 days at 10:00 AM and a water test every 3 days at 8:00 AM. You can change or turn them off in Schedule.
Units follow your region: in the United States the app uses Fahrenheit and gallons, elsewhere Celsius and liters. Change them in Settings, under Units.
On phones, the bottom bar has Home, Trends, My Reef and Species, with the Log button in the middle. On tablets and unfolded foldables, the same sections and Schedule are in the sidebar. Settings is the gear button on Home, and Schedule is the bell button.
Logging a test
- Tap the Log button (or Log a test in the sidebar).
- For each parameter, tap the quick value that matches your test kit card. ReefLogix moves to the next one automatically.
- For a precise number, tap Exact and type the value. Tap Skip for anything you did not test.
- Turn on Water change today if you changed water, and pick the percent.
- Optionally add a test kit photo with the camera button, or a note.
- Tap Save test.
At least one parameter needs a value before you can save. To change the date or time, tap the date at the top. A test with a water change also marks your water change reminder as done.
To edit or delete a reading later, open Trends, pick the parameter and tap the reading in History.
Understanding statuses
Every value gets one of four statuses. Ideal is shown in green, Low and Elevated in amber, and Critical in red. The Ideal range is also drawn as the target band on charts.
| Parameter | Ideal | Low | Elevated | Critical |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| pH | 8.1 to 8.4 | 7.9 to below 8.1 | above 8.4 to 8.6 | below 7.9 or above 8.6 |
| Ammonia (ppm) | 0 to 0.05 | none | above 0.05 to 0.25 | above 0.25 |
| Nitrite (ppm) | 0 to 0.1 | none | above 0.1 to 0.5 | above 0.5 |
| Nitrate (ppm) | 2 to 10 | 0 to below 2 | above 10 to 25 | above 25 |
The ring on Home shows how many of the parameters you have tested are Ideal, for example 3/4. After saving a test, ReefLogix shows a tip for the value that needs the most attention, such as a water change when nitrate is high.
These ranges are general targets for reef tanks. Some systems and livestock do better with different values. When in doubt, test again and ask an experienced reefer or your local fish store before making big changes.
Reminders and notifications
Open Schedule from the bell button on Home or the Up next card. Tap a reminder to change its title, how often it repeats, the time of day or the start date. Tap Done when you have done the task, and the next date moves forward by its interval.
Notifications are scheduled on your device and work without internet. Each one has Mark done and Snooze 1 hour actions. ReefLogix asks for permission to send notifications the first time you turn on a reminder.
Not getting notifications on iPhone or iPad
- Open the Settings app and tap Notifications, then ReefLogix.
- Turn on Allow Notifications and choose how they appear.
- Check that a Focus mode is not silencing ReefLogix.
Not getting notifications on Android
- Open Settings, then Apps, ReefLogix, Notifications, and turn on notifications and the Maintenance reminders category.
- On Android 14 and later, apps need permission to ring on time. Go to Settings, Apps, Special app access, Alarms and reminders, select ReefLogix and turn on Allow setting alarms and reminders. Without it, reminders still arrive, but may be a few minutes late.
- If your phone has aggressive battery saving, set ReefLogix to Unrestricted under Battery in its app settings.
Menu names vary a little between phone makers. Reminders are rescheduled after a restart and keep their local time when you change time zones.
The free version includes the water change and water test reminders, which you can edit, turn off and mark done. With Plus you can add your own reminders for dosing, filters, cleaning, feeding and anything else.
My Reef and photos
My Reef is where your fish, corals and inverts live. Tap the + button, pick a species from the database or create a custom species, then add a nickname, quantity, the date it joined your tank and notes.
Open an inhabitant to see its photo gallery. Add photos from the camera or your library, swipe through them full screen, choose a cover photo or delete one. If an animal is rehomed or lost, use Archive to hide it without deleting its photos.
Photos are copied into the app on your device. The free version allows 3 photos per inhabitant and Plus removes the limit. Nothing you already added is removed if you are not on Plus.
Species database
Species has 252 fish, LPS, SPS, soft corals, anemones and inverts, each with a photo and care data: care level, temperament, reef safety, maximum size, minimum tank size, temperature, pH, diet and origin. Search by common or scientific name, or tap a category tile.
On a species page, Fits your reef compares the species with your selected tank: whether the volume you entered is large enough, whether it is safe with the corals in My Reef, and how it is likely to get along with your fish. Set the tank volume in Settings, under Tanks, for the most useful results.
Care data is a general guide. Individual animals vary, so research a species before you buy it. Photo authors and licenses are listed in the app under Settings, Photo credits, and on the photo credits page.
ReefLogix Plus
ReefLogix Plus is a one-time purchase of 4.99 USD (local price set by Apple and Google). It is not a subscription. It unlocks:
- Your full history in Trends, History, charts, stats and streaks, plus the 30D, 90D, 1Y and All ranges
- Unlimited tanks
- Unlimited photos per inhabitant
- Custom reminders
- CSV export
Readings older than 7 days are never deleted in the free version. They stay on your device and appear as soon as Plus is active.
Restore your purchase
On a new device or after reinstalling, open Settings in ReefLogix and tap Restore purchase.
- iPhone and iPad: make sure you are signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy Plus.
- Android: make sure Google Play is signed in to the same Google account you used to buy Plus. Plus usually restores on its own when the app starts.
Purchases cannot move between the App Store and Google Play. If your purchase is pending, for example waiting for a payment method, Plus unlocks as soon as it completes.
Refunds
Payments are handled by Apple and Google, so refunds are too. On iPhone or iPad, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, open the Google Play Store, go to Payments and subscriptions, then Budget and history, or follow the refund steps in the Google Play help center. If a refund is granted, ReefLogix returns to the free limits without deleting your data.
Exporting data
With Plus, you can export all readings for the selected tank as a CSV file, from the share button in Trends or from Settings, under Data. The file opens in Numbers, Excel, Google Sheets and most spreadsheet apps. It has one row per reading, oldest first, with these columns:
taken_at, ph, ammonia_ppm, nitrite_ppm, nitrate_ppm, water_change_percent, notes
Use the share sheet to save it to Files, send it by email or keep it in a cloud drive of your choice.
Moving to a new phone
ReefLogix keeps everything on your device and has no account or cloud sync, so there is no ReefLogix login that brings your data along. Here is what you can do:
- Device transfer and backups: moving to a new phone of the same kind with the system's transfer or backup tools (for example Quick Start or iCloud Backup on iPhone, or Google backup on Android) may bring app data with it, depending on your device and settings.
- CSV export: with Plus, export your readings before you switch so you always have a copy. The app cannot import a CSV yet.
- Plus: restore it on the new device with Restore purchase in Settings, using the same store account.
Switching between iPhone and Android does not carry over app data or the Plus purchase.
Erasing data
To start over, open Settings, go to Data and tap Erase all data, then confirm with Erase everything. Every tank, reading, photo, livestock item and reminder is removed from the device, and ReefLogix starts fresh with an empty My Reef tank and the two default reminders.
To remove one tank only, open Settings, then Tanks, and delete it. This also deletes its readings, livestock, photos and reminders. The last remaining tank cannot be deleted.
Uninstalling the app also removes all of its data. Erasing data does not remove Plus, which stays with your store account.
